THE WORLD DOESN’T NEED ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL ARTIST
It’s time for us to begin to be free from the modern concept of work, even if our work is our passion. And the number one step is to abandon our very narrow version of success. What is success then?
THE FREEDOM TO CREATE
The creative flow or the freedom to create. How I allow freedom in my life and creative process.
THE BEAUTY IN THE MESS
WHAT ART THOU?
What art thou? Often times we don’t know what we’re doing. And that’s excellent. We’re generally so encouraged to be clear on our mission and purpose, that we tend to reject the freedom that comes with having no clue.
IT’S TIME FOR ACTION
The Information Era is dying. It’s time for action.
Researchers of the World, leave your thesis and doctorates.
AN OPEN LETTER TO MY PRIVATE COLLECTORS
After experiencing a deep transformation in my work, I’m going to be making changes in the way I communicate with my audience and I explain it all in an honest, open letter to my private collectors that I’ve wanted to make public because it affects not only my collectors but also the rest of my readers, so grab a cup of your favorite warm drink and take your time to read it.
SPECTATOR VS. CREATOR
Being a spectator can leave you only with the illusion that you are indeed part of a creation – somebody else’s creation – when in reality, it might only be filling a void, satisfying only a small portion of the strong urge you have to create something of your own. So, if you start noticing…
TOOLS FOR GROWTH
I think I’ve never properly introduced you to my printmaking press before, have I? How inconsiderate of me. This second-hand press has a lot of…
ART AND PERFECTIONISM
Let me talk about art and perfectionism. Achieving a “rounded” piece involves a lot of behind-the-scenes work. Many studio proofs, lots of trial-and-error, and countless wasted materials until I finally get to that sweet spot where I feel ‘this is it’. I think the hardest thing for an artist is…
ART IS REVOLUTIONARY
People tend to believe that every time an artist creates an artwork, something new is created. Nein. Art mimics Evolution. Good Art is always repurposing, reinventing, revisiting, turning the established rules upside down. And then again. Until you’ve turned a concept around so much that…
THE TRUTH ABOUT TOOLS
Today’s set of tools.
Tools are ultimately unnecessary. I could paint with my fingers. I often do. I could use coffee instead of ink. Wine. Beets. Cherries. Mud, if I was only left with that. Even the canvas is not necessary. There’s the beach’s sand that the ocean erases and the wall in the caves that darkness preserves. The beauty of what we have in hand… Isn’t all that ultimately a tool?
Anything can be turned into a tool, into a means to express ourselves, and each tool has its challenges.
However…
TODAY I GOT MY FURY BACK
Today something way stronger than me took over my system.
This strong urge to create.
See, I’ve been avoiding this scream inside me for the past 8 months. I buried this craving under…
NEWS FROM THE STUDIO – AUGUST
After several “total disconnection weeks”, courtesy of a broken -literally- phone, and no internet connection, I’m back with some studio news.
August has been extremely creative both in terms of artistic explorations and human relations/networking/connections, the latest being a concept us artists historically suck at.
WORK-PLAY BALANCE
INVOKING CREATIVITY
People often talk about, or wonder, how to cultivate creativity. But that perspective is just wrong. You don’t cultivate creativity. You’re a flower in her garden, and she’ll harvest the hell out of you if you’re brave enough to become fertile soil. If anything, you invoke her, and it’s a ritual. Wanna know what it takes?
I LEARNT SOMETHING FROM A BANANA
Bananas are delicious. And nutrient-dense. And packed with healthy sugars. And Paleo compliant.
Aaaaand now also… (I never thought I’d say this but… ) bananas are wise, people!!! Who would have thought, right??
ART IS A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE
Surrendering to the artwork’s innate intelligence is a much harder task than persevering in the illusion that the artist is creating the artwork. The illusion of being in control…
WHAT IS ART?
What is art? Or should I ask what the f* is art? This might be one of the most controversial questions of all times. It’s so controversial that people are even scared to ask. I’m glad you asked though, cuz I’m not scared to answer.
A NOTE ON GRAY
Gray has a bad reputation. It sounds boring, disappointing. However, it’s of my favorite colors. But why? I’m here to pledge for gray and clean its name…
